You may recall my problems with keeping a hot water heater going. I finally decided cold showers were not so bad. It gets so hot here the water actually comes out lukewarm, if you let it run for a little while.
At least that was the case until winter hit and the temperatures dropped about twenty degrees. Now it’s all I can do to climb into the shower each day. Even the Thai boys don’t like it. When I tell them I don’t have any hot water, a lot of them decide a shower before sex isn’t that important.

I guess I may need to rethink this cold shower situation.
I’m probably the last person on earth to discover this site, but on the off chance there are others out there I thought I’d give it a mention. ThailandLife.com began as the school project of a 12 year old Thai youth. Now age 20, it has become a chronicle of a Thai teen age boy’s life.

The site is intriguing, because it offers a candid view of Thai customs, culture, and religion. While it does delve heavily into teen social issues, particularly drug abuse, the site is rich with accounts of daily life in Thailand.

If you are interested in gaining a better perspective on Thai culture, particularly family life, ThailandLife.com is an excellent read. The site is well organized, easy to read, and illustrated with over 800 photos.

The author was recently sentenced to 3 years in prison for a drug related crime. A new site has been established to tell his story of life in a Thai prison. While only on-line for a short time, it too has some interesting reading.
When I moved to Thailand I never gave any thought to whether or not Thais celebrate Christmas. If someone had asked, I would have guessed they didn’t. Of course I would have been wrong.

I don’t have a clue as to how friends and family embrace the holiday. I get the impression gift baskets are popular. I’ve also picked up a slight inkling that New Years is actually more important in Thai culture. I could be totally wrong here, but I’m thinking New Years has more of a spiritual significance, while Christmas is mostly commercial.

By the end of November I started noticing Christmas displays going up all around Bangkok. Its not surprising the real elaborate displays are concentrated in and around major shopping centers. In fact, most displays have some sort of commercial sponsor.
All of the stores and shopping centers play Christmas music. Even the neighborhood restaurants pull out the old favorites. And I spotted a group of Christmas carolers in Silom one evening…mostly Farang.

After dark, parts of Bangkok offer an amazing display of lights and decorations. You can get some great views while riding the Sky Train. I made a few attempts at photographing the nighttime displays, but I could not hold the camera still enough to get anything worth showing. I did get some good shots during the day, and have put a small gallery up for you to look at.

McDonalds is the most dominant fast food chain in America, and the same appears to be true in Thailand. I did read someplace that KFC owns the top spot in Thailand, but I see more McDonalds here in Bangkok. If KFC has the lead, it’s not by much. In my opinion, the only American franchise more dominant than McDonalds, in Bangkok, is 7 Eleven. McDonalds restaurants are everywhere. Some Bangkok shopping malls, such as MBK, have three or four McDonalds stores scattered around the sprawling multi level properties.

On my first visit to a McDonalds in Thailand I ordered a Big Mac, fries and a drink. This dining experience was a huge disappointment. It would not be fair of me to say their hamburgers taste bad. How good something tastes is a matter of individual opinion. However, a Big Mac in Thailand is not, in any way shape or form, comparable to its American counterpart. They are two entirely different meals.

Eating a Big Mac in Thailand reminds me of the old Wendy’s commercial with the elderly woman asking, “where’s the beef.” There’s not much meet between the buns in a McDonalds hamburger. Chicken, pork, and fish are the preferred meats in Thailand. This may have something to do with the pathetic burger McDonalds serves up.
They have the fries down pat, but all restaurants in Thailand serve up good French fries. At least that’s been my experience so far.

McDonalds does serve customers traditional tomato catsup, but I’ve not seen any mustard.
Other familiar items are the McChicken Sandwich, Filet-O-Fish, and Chicken McNuggets. Like a lot of American fast food joints in Thailand, McDonalds has menu items that are not offered in the states - Pork Burger, Samurai Pork Burger, Chicken McCrispy (two pieces of fried chicken), Chicken McRice Burger, and Pork McRice Burger (meat between two rice cakes). See the Thai McDonalds web site for a complete menu.
Today I tried the McChicken Sandwich and Filet-O-Fish. Both were pretty much the same as I’ve experienced in America, the fish sandwich being the better of the two. In America I was never a big fan of either. I just wanted to see if McDonalds served up anything comparable to what we can get in the states.

While I was waiting for my sandwiches, I noticed they have a sink for customers to wash their hands. At least I think it is for the customers. There is a sign above the sink saying “Use Toilet In Shopping Center”, so maybe it’s just for employees. If it were just for employees, I would imagine they’d put in the back someplace. Maybe its out front so customers can see that the employees are washing their hands…I don’t know.

Last night, while cruising the boys on-line, I found a cute guy that looked like a good match for the evening. I started a conversation with him, and in a few minutes he agreed to come see me.
I kind of figured he was a money boy, so I asked him, and he told me he was. I said I’d give him a 1000 Baht, and he countered with 1500. I told him I would only pay 1000, and after a bit of a delay, he agreed.

Well, the boy that arrived at my door looked nothing like his pictures. In fact, he wasn’t all that good looking…at least for my taste. It was getting late, and I didn’t feel like starting over, so I decided to have him stay. He had already agreed (on-line) to stay the night, but soon after arriving I was informed he would not be staying for very long. At this point I should have shown him the door, but I didn’t.
As the evening progressed it became obvious this boy was either inexperienced, or straight, or both. I’m used to the boys being a little shy and timid, but this guy was frigid. It was all I could do to get him out of his cloths, and it didn’t get any better after that. I’ll spare you the details and just say that I’d have been more satisfied just beating off, and my hand does not charge me a thousand Baht.
I really wasn’t enjoying his company, so I cut it short and sent him on his way. By all rights he didn’t deserve to get paid, but I know better than to get a reputation for not paying, so he got his thousand.
After he left, I laid there thinking about the experience I’d just been through. Suddenly it dawned on me he probably wasn’t the guy I talked to on-line. I already know a lot of these guys will mentor a friend wanting to get into the money boy business. My guess is this boy was an underling to the guy I was trying to pick up. When the guy realized I wasn’t going to pay him 1500, he sent his trainee.
Of course I could be wrong, but the conversation I had on-line was with someone much more sophisticated than this boy was capable of.
I got a message from him today, thanking me for a nice evening, and that he looked forward to seeing me again soon. Something tells me this was the original guy I spoke to on-line giving me the euphemistic finger.
In the past couple of days I’ve added some new pages…
In my last post, Miguel commented…
“Does it just become normal and boring after a while, regularly being able to have sex with boys so mind-blowingly gorgeous as the ones that you’ve posted about?”
This is a great question…something I hadn’t really thought about. I guess the short answer is no, not really. But I’ve only been here a short time. I know a Farang that has lived in Bangkok for five years, and he doesn’t feel its normal or boring.

What changes, at least for me, is how discriminating you are. Everywhere I go, everywhere I look, there are dozens of stunningly cute boys. Just taking a ride on the Sky Train can be an exercise in self control.
As I was writing this, Grumpy Little Thai Boy called to see if he could come over tonight. I had to tell him no, because tonight, and tomorrow night, are already taken by other boys. Actually, I just told him I was busy.
Yesterday I noticed there is a new boy (early 20’s) working at one of the local restaurants I frequent. He could not keep his eyes off of me. You start to learn, fairly quickly, the difference between curiosity and cruising. This boy was cruising me, and being rather blatant about it.
Now keep in mind, I’m no prize catch - at least not in America. I’m 51, 220+ pounds, with a big potbelly and graying hair. In America I’d be considered a troll, but not in Thailand!
Sometimes I feel like a kid in a candy store.
OOPS…I’ve started to ramble on, and it’s beginning to sound a little braggadocios. I’m really not bragging. You, regardless of looks, can do this too, and if you happen to be an attractive guy, by Western standards, its pure utopia.

But I guess that’s the point. I’m not an attractive guy, yet there is a seemingly endless supply of cute Thai boys anxious to hop in the sack with me. With so many to choose from, I can afford to be more discriminating, and look for interesting challenges. I can pursue new fantasies. And I have a long list of them.
There is no truth to the belief all Asians look alike. They come in all shapes, sizes, shades, and distinct facial features. I have become enormously fascinated with the distinct facial features within the population. It is difficult to describe these different looks, but the longer you live here; the more you begin to notice them. I now find myself chasing after those looks I’ve not had yet. For me, its one way of being discriminating when there are so many different opportunities.
Last night I had a cute 23 year old over that I found on-line. His profile said he wanted to get fucked by under forty Farangs, that are slim, fit, gentile, and kind. I took a chance and told him I’m not slim and fit, but I’m Nam Jai (means has a kind heart) and would be happy to top him. He was here in thirty minutes. AND, he was not a money boy! Chances are “Nam Jai” did the trick, because most Farang don’t know that phrase, and it impressed him.

That cute boy in the restaurant is a challenge. I haven’t found out if he speaks any English yet. Even if he does, there’s no easy way to have that sort of conversation in a restaurant. Chances are I’ll never get him, but one never knows. If he speaks English, I might just hand him my phone number and see what happens.
There is an adorable little guy working in the 7 Eleven I frequent. One of my Thai friends told me he’s gay. He also has one of those looks I’ve not had yet. BOY…would I love to snatch him up some day!
I live in a very gay area of Bangkok. Half of the residents in my apartment building are gay…I’m not exadurating. I bump into them all the time in the elevator, but so far I’ve not hooked up with any of my neighbors. It has become a fantasy of mine.
One of the security guards at my apartment building is cute as a bug’s ear. He cruises me every time I walk by. Fucking one of the security guards has all the makings of a wonderful fantasy.
Many moons ago, when I was a buff young stud, I was very picky about who I would go home with. I was a hot little number, so I could afford to be choosy. Today, I find myself doing the same thing. Who would have guessed?

I’ve thought about getting a boyfriend at some point in the future. In Thailand, boyfriend is generally thought to mean a long-term monogamous relationship. Something I’m resistant to try right now. The temptations are just too strong.
Perhaps that’s the real answer to this question. When it starts to get boring and normal, its time to start shopping for a boyfriend.
I had originally planed to write about all the American fast food places in Bangkok. Instead, I’m starting my review series with a great little place I’ve never seen in America.

Winter has been unseasonably hot this year, but we have been enjoying cooler temperatures the past couple of days. So I decided to try out a new Wrap-It that just opened in my area. They have a nice outdoor seating area, perfect for people watching on a cool Bangkok afternoon.
I’m guessing the chain got its inspiration from the traditional Greek pita wrap. This is evidenced by the fact they offer several variations made with lamb. I could not find a web site for them, but one site listed them as Mediterranean.

Wrap-It serves pita wraps with variations that include chicken, lamb, seafood mix, tuna, or vegetarian. I had one of their chicken wraps, and it was very good. I upgraded to a comb that included a soft drink and an interesting variation of the tater tot, called Munchers. It’s basically a deep fried tater tot filled with cheese.
If you stay away from the Muncheres, Tater Puffs and Fries, Wrap-It serves up a reasonably healthy meal. The ingredients of my wrap included chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumbers (very popular in Thailand), lettuce, and chicken - mixed in a creamy white sauce. Both the pita and chicken were heated on a grill, before combining the ingredients.

They prepared my meal right in front of me. I assume this is always the case, even when they are busy. The girl even carried the meal out to my table. On top of that, Wrap-It includes two full sized napkins with your order. I think this is the first time I’ve eaten in Thailand and only used one napkin.
I was very pleased with the experience, and plan to return often. I can’t wait to try their Classic Chicken Caesar Wrap.
Cost of meal - 199 Baht (approx. 5.65 US)
