Pillow Love

September 30th, 2007

Thai boys have this special relationship with pillows that is almost sexual in nature. I’m not sure, but suspect it actually stems from being given a pillow to sleep with when very young.

If there’s a throw pillow on the couch or chair, it will almost certainly end up on the boy’s lap within minutes, if not seconds. In bed, a bolster pillow will quickly find its way into the arms and legs of a sleeping Thai boy. I’ve actually watched boys in their sleep find and snuggle up with a bolster pillow.

I wish I had some better pictures to show you, but anyone that has lived in Thailand will tell you I’m not exadurating.

Thais Are Superstitious

September 27th, 2007

I possess only the most basic level of understanding in this, but am comfortable saying Thais, in general, are very superstitious. The degree of superstition certainly varies from one Thai to the next, and seems more rooted in those that are less metropolitan.

It also appears, at least in part, to have some connection with the Buddhist religion, particularly when it comes to beliefs and practices associated with good and bad luck. As an example, that string tied around a boy’s wrist or upper arm is for good luck. While I don’t fully understand it, this is often associated with the Buddhist religion, but may also have been given by a parent. Buddhist pendants, worn on a necklace, or clipped to clothing, are also for good luck.

I’ve also picked up on some subtle indications that the degree, and specifics of Thai superstitions vary from one region of Thailand to the next.

I’m not going to try and cover, in this post, all the examples I encountered while living in Thailand. Instead I’ll talk about each separately, as I think of them.

I should mention that most, if not all, Thais believe in spirits. I have no doubt there is more than enough material to write at least one book about spirits and their influence on Thai culture. Managing one’s coexistence with spirits is, for many, a daily practice in Thailand.

It is important to know about the various superstitions within Thai culture, as it will have a direct impact on your relationship with Thais. Your knowledge and respectful recognition of their beliefs will, in many cases, score big points.

Asian Boy Faces

September 22nd, 2007

I don’t know about you, but most skinny smooth Asian boys have a body I find pleasing. I do prefer a nice bubble butt, and a lot of the boys tend to be a bit flat in that region, but other than that, I’m fine with just about any guy.

What I really look at is their faces, and all the wonderful things they do with their hair. It’s a subjective thing, and my taste won’t necessarily be the same as someone else, but I think it’s safe to say face is what grabs our attention. And this is what inspired my latest photo gallery - Asian Boy Faces.

The Rainy Season

September 20th, 2007

Thailand is in the heart of its rainy season right now. Starting around the middle of August and ending around the middle of November, if it’s not raining it’s probably about to. Actually, there are days when it doesn’t rain, but it can be so unpredictable. The rain usually lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour, but it’s a pain having to carry an umbrella that isn’t much use anyway in a heavy down poor.

All this rain tends to get in the way of trying to see the sights. Consequently, the rainy season, combined with the preceding hotter than hell summer, comprise the off season for tourism in Thailand. For those wanting to save money, this is a good time to visit, because many things, like hotel and air fare, are cheaper. The rain also helps to cool temperatures off a little.

One of the things I discovered is the Thai boys have this uncanny ability to predict when it is going to rain. They know if it is going to rain that day, and they can usually tell you when. I’d give them about an 80 percent accuracy rating. For those wanting to visit Thailand in the rainy season, having a Thai boy around to help navigate the weather can make the trip more enjoyable. Hell, having a Thai boy around can help make the trip more enjoyable period, but it is something to consider. Not to mention he will carry your umbrella for you all day.

Locking into one boy for a particular excursion, or for your entire stay, does have its advantages. Provided you get a good boy, and there are lots of them, the only disadvantage, unless he’s into doing 3-ways (sandwiches), is you can’t fool around with any other boys.

To each his own, but even though I am a top I’d prefer my full time companion to be a top, as well. As long as he’s good at sucking dick, and comfortable with 3-ways, I much prefer the more masculine guys for everything outside the bedroom. I’m sure some would disagree, no doubt there are exceptions, but I find the tops are more assertive, an important consideration when you are depending on the boy to take care of everything while traveling.

Asian Boy Butt Buster

September 16th, 2007

Let me start off by saying I’m not turning this into a gay Asian porn blog. Anyone reading RQD knows I like Asian porn, but I won’t be posting hardcore photos and videos here. That said, I felt compelled to post this link from Gay Asian Amateurs, and you can decide if you want to go look.

Thai Boy With Big Cock

I’ve seen a lot of Asian cocks, but never one as big as this Thai boy has. Usually when Asian boys have a big cock it’s long but not fat, or the other way around. This guy, on the other hand, has a big fat one that stretches all the way to his chest! He’s not the cutest Thai boy I’ve seen, but with a cock like that I’m guessing he has the Lady Boys lined up in waiting.

Braces Are In

September 15th, 2007

When I was growing up, having to wear braces was the kiss of death for one’s social life. Not so in Thailand. Wearing orthodontic braces is a huge fashion statement with the youth. I’ve been told it’s so popular; many will have them put on when they aren’t needed, or opt for much cheaper fake braces.

I don’t know for sure why braces have achieved such popularity, but suspect its one visible, and undeniable, means of showing wealth, something very important in this materialistic, status oriented society.

Reflections Is Moving

September 11th, 2007

A friend of mine, living in Bangkok, sent me this photo the other day. It’s a picture of what is left of the world famous Reflections Hotel and Restaurant I wrote about when first starting this blog. Apparently a new high-rise condominium is going up in its place.

Reflections Remains
NOTE: Chakran Sauna in back ground

At first I thought this was the end of an icon, but after a little research I’ve discovered Reflections is moving to a new location, just up the street in Saphan Kwai. I doubt the new place will have the charm of the original Reflections, but at least it’s going into a great location. Saphan Kwai is an area of Bangkok known for its large gay population.

Literally thousands of cute gay Thai boys live in this area, making it a cruising paradise! Just sit outside the Big C for a little while and you will see what I’m talking about. I’m not exadurating when I say you’ll see cute gay Thai boys everywhere you go in Saphan Kwai. And, of course, there are all the great gay venues in the area.

Thus, the new location will be a good place to stay, if you want a different experience from the better known Silom district, all the gay farang congregate at.

I should also mention the Reflections Restaurant has moved to a location behind the old site (see photo above), but I suspect its just temporary, until the new hotel is completed.

Here are some links I found showing all the changes. I’m not sure how long they will work, but for now you can get a look at what they are doing.

Heineken Please

September 6th, 2007

There are six beers prominently available in Thailand; Singha, Chang, Leo, Cheers, Tiger, and Heineken. By this I mean you can get them at any 7-Eleven, grocery, and larger drinking establishments. Restaurants and smaller establishments that limit their beer selection typically offer Singha and Heineken. Obviously the limited selection is determined by what is requested most often.

It did not take long for me to notice a distinct preference for Heineken, particularly in the club scene. Roughly 95 percent of the Thai Boys, sucking on a beer, had their lips wrapped around a Heineken. I found this lack of diversity in taste a bit strange. Heineken is the more expensive of the six, and most of these boys don’t have a lot of money to spend. So, why are they all drinking Heineken?

I asked a Thai friend why all the boys drink Heineken. He said, in a very abrupt tone, “because it not Thai.” All I gained from that exchange was the realization my question had touched on something he did not want to discuss. Later I learned why.

As it turns out, drinking Heineken is another one of those status symbols, so prominent in Thai culture. While most Thai boys are totally comfortable opening a bottle of Leo at home, they wouldn’t get caught dead doing it in public.

I realize we do the same thing in the States. The ridiculously high priced bottled water craze comes to mind. But in the States there’s a variety of products suitable for those wishing to make a social/materialistic statement. And I really don’t think this behavior is as dominant in American culture, as it appears to be with Thais.

Please don’t misunderstand… I’m not passing judgment here. I just find this aspect of Thai culture intriguing. How on earth did one company manage to convince an entire population theirs is the only beer to drink?

My preference, in Thailand, is for Beer Leo, and in the States it’s Coors Light. Yes…I’m fully aware of my position on the social ladder.

Cute Japanese Boy Shin

September 4th, 2007

One of the perks of a membership in the Gay Asian Network is free access to their Asian Boy hook up site. Hundreds of really cute Asian boys, from all over the world, have profiles there.

Cute Japanese Boy Shin

Last night I was looking at the profiles and came across this absolutely adorable little 20 year old Japanese boy. Shin lives near Ginza, and is looking for a boy friend. I can’t wait to get back to Asia, but for now I’m feeding my lust vicariously at places like this.
