KAOS Comes To Bangkok
November 8th, 2008DJ Bradly Kaos, a social acquaintance of mine, has decided to bring his London based legendary underground queer tekno parties to Bangkok, and other parts of Asia. Friends tell me he’s quite the DJ super star back home and regularly guest DJs in clubs all over Bangkok. The first of his parties is scheduled for Friday the 21st of November.

Tatu + Bradley Kaos
Bradley is hoping for a mixed farang and Thai gay crowd. I asked him if he thought the more conservative Thais would take it to the extreme he’s accustomed to back in London. Bradley said it’s unlikely, but will be interesting to find out. Don’t expect a report back from yours truly, as I gave up this type of scene years ago. But I wish Bradley all the best in his new adventure.

this looks like a fresh alternative to the too touristy dj scene and local whisky bars. They really know how to party in london so hope this catches on in bangkok

So what kind of venue is this. I clicked on the link, and looked at the map, but the neighborhood that the club is in just isn’t a nightclub zone. At least not any I’m familiar with. Is it a new gay club?

J,
Note the word “underground” in the description. I asked if this was similar to a rave. He hesitated a little and said yes. Thus, I assume any space large enough to host a one time dance party is a candidate. My guess is the next party will be in a different location.

Ah, yes. I’ve become so used to the word underground being attached to any party that lasts until after midnight that I had forgotten it’s real meaning. Hopefully, the next KAOS will be in the first couple of weeks in January, when I’ll be in town. Thing is, DJ Station has become 95% commercial these days, and the other gay night club alternatives are all Thai-style, meaning the main floor is filled with tall tables that make it impossible to mingle. So the time is ripe for someone to breathe some new life into Bangkok’s gay nightlife scene. I hope your acquaintance makes a go of it.

Hi,
Thank you for such an interesting diary!
I’m an American as well and plan on retiring and moving to BKK a year from now, Dec. 2009. Needless to say, I’m getting nervous already! I do have a Thai bf, going on 4 years, which will help my transition but still scared!
It would be nice to have a friend or two from the USA once I get settled in. Maybe we can meet sometime?
If you don’t mind, can I ask you a couple of questions? I might have a few more to ask later!
Is it worth the expense to have medical/healthcare insurance?
Do you ever go back home during the year to visit friends and family? I think I have to for my own sanity!
Is the Thonburi area a good place to rent a newer condo? My thinking now, is to rent, not buy. We both love water and plan on taking alot of trips to Krabi, Phuket and others.
Are there any “tips” you can give me that I need to do early next year to get ready for my move?
I hope I haven’t bothered you with these questions, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Take care,
Jerry
