Massage Places
July 25th, 2008I recently met a farang who’s been visiting Thailand off and on for about 5 years. Before meeting him I thought I had a good understanding of the sex massage business in Thailand. BOY was I wrong!
As it turns out, my new found friend is a bit of an aficionado on the subject, particularly when it comes to getting a massage in Bangkok. He has shared his knowledge and experiences with me, and taken me to a few places, so I could see and experience the differences for myself.
So, here is what I’ve learned…
THE SEX MASSAGE
Until now, I only knew about the sex massage places, such as Adonis. These facilities offer customers a full body massage with sex at the end. And when I say sex, I mean anything you want, with in reason - top, bottom, oral, or masturbation. Of course, you can jump straight to the sex if you want, but expect the session to end when the sex does. You should also expect to just get a hand job if you don’t escalate things at the point when he begins to play with your pleasure muscle.
These facilities strive to offer masseurs that are versatile, but in reality most are not. On top of that, the boys are often only good at sex or massage, but not both. As far as I know, all sex massage places cater to either straight or gay customers, but not both. Thus, you will only find male masseurs in a gay sex massage place, but some of the guys are most likely straight, by Thai standards.
Best I can determine, the cheapest sex massage is 1500 baht. That includes a fee to the establishment and minimum required tip to the masseur. Depending on the facility, and massage selected, the price can be as high as several thousand baht. Most, if not all, will also send a boy to your room, for an added fee. Some will allow customers to have more than one boy at a time…for a price!
THE DIRTY MASSAGE
My new discovery is the dirty massage facilities. These facilities have the appearance of a regular massage ONLY place. They have male and female masseurs on staff, and cater to both straight and gay customers. If asked, they will deny anything more than a full body oil massage takes place while naked in the private room with a boy. However, a hand job is always included, usually at the end.
The masseur is NOT required to disrobe, but may do so at his discretion. In most cases, the boy will take his shirt off, and some strip down to their underwear. The important thing to remember is you can not insist on it, and complaints will be ignored. Of course, anything can happen, particularly if the boy fancies you, but it is at HIS sole discretion - NOT YOURS! All you should expect is a nice hand job at the end, and nothing more!
I had one boy strip to his undies, and pulled them down, at the “happy” moment, so I could play with his cock. He will, of course, be seeing me again! But I must stress, this is not the norm for a dirty massage. I just happened to get a good boy, and I’ll bet he makes a lot more money than the others do. My friend has a boy that fancies him, so his experience is full blown naked boy sex…initiated by the boy.
In the heart of Silom, and other gay pockets of the city, you can expect the boys to seamlessly transition to the “happy” stage, making it a wonderful finish to an hour of ecstasy. As you get into the fringe areas, don’t be surprised if the boy stops and asks if you want the “happy” ending.
The cost is 500 baht to the facility, and the boy gets tipped at your discretion, usually between 300 and 500. From what I understand, the boy also gets half of the facility fee. It should go without saying, if the boy did good and you don’t tip him well, forget about getting the same quality of service next time.
FREE LANCERS
Some of the boys working in massage places freelance, after work and on their day off. The best way to find them is on-line at places like Gay Romeo. The boy will come to your room for a one hour full sex massage, but may or may not be versatile. So you really need to nail down what he will and will not do during sex. The cost is 1000 baht.
GAY SAUNAS
Most, if not all, of the gay saunas offer a massage. I have no experience with them, and have yet to find anyone that does, but I assume these are dirty massages. Pricing should be an indicator, particularly in the Thai 4 Thai Saunas.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
The obvious question is how does one identify what type of massage place a particular facility is - sex massage, dirty massage, or regular massage.
In the Silom, and other gay areas, it is safe to assume there are no regular massage places. The dirty massage places will offer foot massages on the first floor, usually in full view from the street. They will also advertise an oil massage. These places have both male and female masseurs on staff, often hanging around in the front lobby or just outside the facility. In most places, but not all, you can select your masseur. In some places, the foot masseurs may not double as oil masseurs. So, you may be informed a particular boy is not available, because he only does feet.
The full sex massage places are only gay or straight, so gay places will just have boys on display for you to choose from. I have heard that one place in Soi Twilight does not let you select the boy, but I can not confirm it. I’ve also heard this same facility is more of a 20 minute jack you off place, but with full sex massage prices…again I’ve not been able to confirm it. The sex massage places advertise in the bar rags, and most are listed at web sites like Dreaded Ned, and Dragon Castle. As far as I know, they all offer a menu of massage options, such as oil, or oil and scrub, and length of time.
TIPS
Ask if the shower is in the private room. If not, you need to investigate further about the security of your belongings. Unless a secure locker is provided, you probably want to pass on facilities that do not provide a shower in the room.
In some places, like Adonis, they line up all the boys and ask you to select one. This can be way too much pressure for some, including me. You can ask the manager to disburse the boys back to what they were doing, and make your selection more leisurely
In a sex massage, the boy often strips down and puts on a towel. You can ask him to remove his towel for the duration of your session. You can also ask him to shower with you, if he doesn’t do it voluntarily…another good reason to insist on rooms with a private shower.

I too was an expert on the “maybe” places in Silom, until I moved a few months ago. Everything in your post seemed quite accurate to me. Just two notes: 30% of the shop fee is the typical commission for the masseur. Secondly, it’s hard to find a cute guy who actually enjoys the “happy” part. Most of them grimace at being groped. You have to make a few signals and leave it up to them. When you find one who enjoys being with you, be generous and you’ll have a good friend going forward.

I visited Bangkok in November of last year. Decided to go with a friend to “Aqua.” It was very much as described above. Seemed to be a nice place with friendly managers. When I arrived, the boys were simply “hanging around” (sitting, drinking, playing pool, wandering. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, as the managers were asking us to choose (pointing out boys and having them come over to the table). I’d rather just take a few moments to let my eyes wander and quietly choose instead of being put on the spot. However, I felt i was very lucky in that the manager (somehow) understood my “type” and kept suggesting that I go with this one particular boy. I did, and it was wonderful. I showered, then was escorted to the massage room by the boy. The facilities were as nice as one might expect, although I got a little bit cold (too much air conditioning). The session started with a massage, then escalated quite nicely to just about everything. After we had our fun, we showered together and parted. Shortly afterwards, in the lobby, I paid a gratuity directly to the boy (which was totally at my discretion). I had a great time, and felt I was lucky to get a very nice, handsome, kind and quite sexy boy.

I have had quite a few massage at Babylon to throw in some info about Sauna massage. It says in bold letters on the price list that there will be no happy endings, and my experience has been that 75% of the time there are not. The problem with Babylon massage rooms is they are not totally private. Someone walking down the hall gets a glimpse into your room. Depending on the location of your room as far as it being away from the main traffic flow, the boy will offer the happy ending because he knows it increases his tip. In the busier traffic flow areas, he will not even try. I have one boy I like there and he gives an excellent massage. Anytime he is available when I am there I get his massage, and when he can he manipulates the room selection to a private area, but sometimes that is not possible and I understand that. He also gets hard and encourages me to play with it through his shorts. He will take it out briefly to show me, but is clearly nervous about being caught like that so I don’t push it. If he offers, I look. If he doesn’t, that’s ok too. It is enjoyable no matter what path it takes.

I have had massages at a number of places in BKK. I enjoyed Fan Club which is off Soi Convent on a small subsoi. I think it is the one with Indigo restaurant. It’s a fairly upscale place on several floors. Very nice shower in the room and nice double beds. The boy I picked there was very sweet. The actual massage was quite short before he moved on to other things which was fine. He told me he was an IT student. Who knows if that was true or not but I enjoyed our time together and he seemed to as well.
I can’t remember the prices there but I think they were higher than places like Adonis and Bonny. I always tip the boy directly before leaving the room at the end and then go to the counter to settle up.
I kind of liked Adonis but the amount of black mold in the shower was a pretty big turn off. The boy there massaged me way too hard which was rather painful. He understood almost no English and I had a hard time finding the words in Thai to get him to not squeeze/push so hard. Cute boy though who seemed to enjoy the afterwards part.
The funniest massage experience is in Pattaya. The rival massage houses have their boys out front competing for customers. There is one associated with Ambiance hotel and one associated Le Cafe Royale so whenever anyone walks up the street there is a chorus of “massage sir?” that rings out from both sides of the street. I finally gave in there the night before I left town and had a very good time with another very sweet guy who was really into me (or if he wasn’t he was a hell of an actor). He wanted me to go do the Loy Krathong thing with him later that evening after his shift but I had other plans. He helped bring my luggage down the next day as well. Not my typical type but it was fun to be made to feel sexy.
I have had pretty positive experiences in general. Bonny did not allow me to pick a masseur. You seem to get whoever is “up” next. But both of my experiences there were fine. Shower not in the room which also made me a little nervous as the boy was washing me in the shower room. But I was there at a dead time of day so I think it was deserted otherwise.
The thing I really don’t like about any of these places is the lack of real massage tables with a face cradle. I get a stiff neck really fast while laying on my stomach without one.

All the massages I have had in Thailand have been in Phuket & all the boys were quite comfortable giving a massage naked and were happy to be touched.
I am a bottom only & one even asked if he could have sex with me during the massage I regretfully declined as I did not have a condom & didnt trust the quality of the one he may have had.
I am going back again in sept & will make certain I carry a supply with me at all massages in the future.
I always paid the boy before I leave the room between 600 & 1000 baht depending upon how good it was.

I also forgot to mention that the boys seem to wait out the front of the massage places and generally you can choose who you would like. I also find this quite uncomfortable as it is a bit like a “meat market” & I would prefer that the boy next in line got the money as I would expect that the better looking boys get more work.
One of the boys I went to several times , he gave a great massage,told me that because he was a bigger more muscular guy he didnt get as much work as the smaller boys that the european farang in particular prefer.
I like more men than boys, maybe being a bottom not sure why, so I was happy to ask for him , Tong, when I went to his massage place.
