Medical Care Part 1

November 9th, 2006

If you end up needing medical care during your stay in Bangkok, there is only one place you should consider going for treatment. Bumrungrad International Hospital is recognized as one of the top medical facilities in the world, and it definitely lives up to its reputation.

On the surface, Bumrungrad does not look like a hospital. Its appearance is more like a five star hotel, and for good reason. This facility attracts people from all over the world that have chosen to take a medical vacation. Consequently, a lot of elective and cosmetic surgery is done here. Only when you move deeper into the facility do you begin to notice it is a place for medical care.

The hospital rooms are more like hotel suits, and a variety of shops and restaurants are on site. Within a short walking distance there are plenty more restaurants, of all types and price range.

Not only is the quality of care exceptional, the cost for that care is ridiculously cheep. I had an office visit, blood work, and two medications prescribed. The cost was 2,690 Baht. That roughly converts to $74 US.

Bumrungrad is also known for on time appointments. If you have a two o’clock appointment, you will be seen at two o’clock. That’s very different from my experiences in America. And get this! They serve water and juice in the waiting areas.

I think it’s safe to say that most people do not like having to see the doctor. It’s certainly way down the list of my favorite things to do in life. But if it becomes necessary, I can’t think of anyplace else in the world I’d rather go. Bumrungrad International is truly a world class facility.
