Pest Control
July 3rd, 2008Here are a few products I’ve discovered do a great job controlling those little creatures that like to invade our homes.
DEALING WITH MOSQUITOES

I’ve been using a product for quite awhile now that does a real good job of getting rid of those pesky mosquitoes. Provided you have a fairly defined and well ventilated area, this little gadget really does the trick. It also requires an electrical outlet, and its plug rotates to accommodate both vertical and horizontal receptacles.

In my case, it’s a laundry room and adjoining bathroom that do not have screened windows. Prior to installing this device I was getting eaten alive. Now I rarely see one of those little blood suckers.

It uses replaceable, self contained bottles of liquid that screw into the bottom of the main device. The device then turns the liquid into an odorless gas, which either repels or kills mosquitoes within the immediate area. The unit, with bottle of liquid, sells in Villa Market for 170 baht, and replacement 90 day bottles that really last about 30 sell for 99 baht. Villa Market is a bit pricy, so I suspect it can be purchased for less at other places like Big C.
GETTING RID OF ANTS

The Terro Liquid Ant Baits do an excellent job of eradicating the tinny little ants that typically invade a kitchen or food preparation area. At Villa Market, a box of 6 runs about 600 baht, but you only need one or two at a time and they last for 3 to 6 months.
ROACH CONTROL

Roach traps, similar to the ones we have in America, keep the smaller variety under control. For the big flying roaches, any household spray cleaner, such as Windex, will put a quick end to their existence. Many don’t know this, but any soap and water mix is lethal when sprayed on bugs. A few table spoons of liquid dish soap, mixed in water, and dispensed with a spray bottle does the job just fine.
