Silom - Sala Daeng

December 29th, 2006

Rather than trying to edit every inappropriate mention of Sala Daeng, I’m just going to correct my error here. Unless referring specifically to the BTS (Sky Train) station, I should have been saying Silom. Sala Daeng is a street (soi) in Silom, and the namesake of the BTS station that plants you in the heart of Silom.

The reason I got confused is a lot of people will say they are going to Sala Daeng, and everyone knows that means Silom…everyone but me that is. Eventually someone corrected me on this nuance.

I found an excellent description of the Silom area on Travelfish.org. The author did a much better job describing it than I can. I’d only add that Silom is the most popular gay nightlife district for Farang. It is where the tourists go to experience everything they’ve heard about the wild side of gay life in Bangkok. Little do they know there are treasures to be found outside Silom.
