Thai 4 Thai Club Hookups
February 3rd, 2009This is something I had observed in the past, but it never really sunk in until the other day when I was talking to one of the boys I hang out with. The discussion was about us going to G Star rather than the clubs up around Chatuchat weekend market (Or Tor Kor). I told him I liked G Star, but it’s difficult to get a taxi after they close. He agreed, but said it’s not a problem as this is the time everyone hooks up for sex.

G Star and other clubs in that area are frequented mostly by university students that live in the area. So for the Thai boys a taxi back home isn’t required if they hookup with someone living in the area. But I digress…
What I learned is while some flirting goes on when the bar is open, boys generally don’t focus on hooking up until it closes and everyone spills out onto the street. The boys go to the bar with a group of friends to have a good time and share the cost of a bottle of whiskey. Once the bar closes, all the boys are drunk and ready for a different kind of action.
I had noticed in the past that hanging out for awhile after closing resulted in a lot more approaches from the boys, but never made the connection this is when they are all hooking up. The difference with farang is you probably will not be invited for sex that night. Instead the boys will want to exchange phone numbers. Best I’ve been able to determine, the boys don’t want to be seen going home with a farang for fear they will look like a money boy.

A COUPLE OF SIDEBARS
Recently the hours of operation at Thai 4 Thai clubs has extended. Some now stay open until 2:30 or 3, and others like G Star close as late as 5. There are also after hour bars that open at 3 and close around 6. Then another set opens with closing times ranging between 9 and 12 noon.
Another interesting thing I learned is the Ratchada Soi 8 Club has a dark room. That’s right! Just like the dark rooms in saunas! And before you ask, I’ve already inquired what the chances are for farang being welcomed into the room. The boys say if you are old and fat forget it, but a good looking guy in his 20’s or early 30’s might be accepted with…um…open lips. Even so, I’d suggest several visits to the club before venturing into the darkness, perhaps at the invite of a Thai.
The other night I was reading a thread over at the Sawatdee Gay Thailand Forum that reminded me of how many farang are under the false impression Silom is the heart of the gay scene in BKK. In reality it represents, at best, 5 percent, and it could be argued I’m being generous with that number.

As always, this is a fascinating insight into the BKK scene.
As a tourist who visits BKK for a few days at a time, I don’t even have enough time to sample all of the “packaged” entertainment venues in Silom. Even visiting Sukhumvit, the gay bars seem to be far apart & the Utopia maps always require a considerable amount of interpretation to find the destination.
However, one day I hope to be in BKK for long enough to try my luck waiting outside a club after closing time….

J,
For fairly current maps of most bars in BKK go to Balcony, Telephone or @Richards and pick up one of the free bar magazines. There is also a dedicated map you can get for free. At Balcony they are located on a rack at the base of the stairs leading to the second floor. These are mostly accurate considering bars open and close regularly. Also some of the Thai 4 Thai bars are not listed. I assume this is because they are already so popular there is no need to advertise, or they don’t want to spend money on listings read mostly by farang that rarely frequent these places.
When visiting the Thai 4 Thai clubs its best to go with one or more boys, as many don’t have any English speaking staff. These places are farang friendly as long as you conduct yourself properly.

Nice to read that Silom only represents 5% or less of BKK’s gay life. that is so true!!! Silom is your haven if you wanna find moneyboys and see the sex shows. the “normal” gay life goes on in every single street of bangkok!!!
any yes, regarding clubs, there is ratchada, OTOKOR, langsuan (only 10 minutes walk from silom, with a nice athmosphere and gorgeous people)and even a club near khao san.

I went to G-Star and Ratchada Soi 8 with a new Thai friend of mine (because I was curious to try Thai 4 Thai discos after having read about them your web site, thanks BTW for all the information you share here!). I was the only farang in G-Star, and one of two in Ratchada Soi 8. My date and I stayed only until about 2:30. G-Star was more full than R., but I didn’t like the music. The music in R. was better.
I think both discos are rather tame by Silom or European gay disco standards. I saw no boys that were dancing more closely together, rubbing, groping, or kissing. Maybe we left too early for that. There were only about two boys dancing shirtless except for the show dancers.
Naturally, I did not get much attention. BUT near the end, in R., when I returned from taking a leak, a young ladyboy unexpectedly and firmly pulled me into the darkroom and kissed me. I offered little resistance to that. And yes, I still had my wallet after this encounter.
Maybe unlike in the discos that I know, the darkroom is already needed for kissing, hehe.

S,
I know what you are talking about. Even in America the boys strip down to their underwear and bump and grind on each other. But not in Thailand! Dancing more closely together, rubbing, groping, or kissing just isn’t done. It is extremely rare to see boys take their shirts off, unless paid to do so. Of those that do, chances are they have a nicely toned or muscular build. That, or they’re just shit faced drunk and don’t care.
