This is really more of a disclaimer than anything else…

In my writings I will be referring to Thai guys as Thai boys. This does not, in any way, mean I’m referring to guys that are under the age of 18. Thai boys is a commonly used phrase here, even by the locals. In all likelihood it was made popular by the locals, and us foreigners (farang) have just followed along. This is particularly evident when you read the Thai profiles at popular hookup sites like Gay.com or GayRomeo.com. Most of the Thai guys will refer to themselves as being a Thai boy, particularly those that are younger than 30.

While I’m on the subject of Thai boys…

If you don’t know this already, like most Asians, Thai boys tend to look a lot younger than they really are. On average, they look between five and seven years younger. The other night I was sitting across the table from a guy I thought was in his mid twenties. Come to find out he was thirty three. Thus, boys in their late teens and early twenties can look scary young.

The legal drinking age in Bangkok is 20, and the clubs are very diligent in checking IDs. So, you need not worry about accidentally hooking up with a boy younger than 18. I’m sure there are places in Bangkok you can go to find that sort of thing, but they are sufficiently hidden, because that sort of thing is not tolerated. Seriously! Don’t come to Thailand, if that’s your thing. It’s a real good way to get into a lot of trouble.

When I first got here I sampled the boys in their early twenties, but quickly discovered older is better. While there certainly are exceptions, the younger guys can be a little less satisfying in bed, and make for poor conversation out of bed. I have found much better when gravitating toward late twenties and early thirties. They still have the youthful look, but are usually much better in bed, and a lot more fun to hang out with. The older guys also tend to have better English skills. Not that it’s important in bed, but it sure makes a difference in other situations.

While I do prefer the older guys, selection is more limited in that age range, and they tend to be more selective about whom they will go home with. So I always find it a special treat when I manage to hookup with one.
